Gifts of Hope

In Africa, a little can go a long way.

These are symbolic gifts, but our work gives some of the poorest families in rural Africa the skills and resources they need to escape poverty.

Livestock, poultry and beehives allow families to improve their diet and earn an income, whilst seeds, vegetable gardens and tree seedlings allow people to make the most out of their farming activities. We will use your gift to find our work wherever the need is greatest. You can find out more about how the funds are used here.

A clutch of chicks: $12 - Buy
ChickensA clutch of chickens, guinea fowl or turkeys will boost an African family's earnings.

Eggs and meat provide a valuable source of protein, and can be sold to supplement family income.

Bag of seed: $15- Buy
SeedsFinding good quality seeds that grow well in the local soil can be hard for farmers in Africa. We provide improved seed and train community members as seed growers so there is always a good quality supply available locally.

Your gift will provide seeds and training for local people to grow certified seed.

Pigs & Goats: $35 - Buy
Pigs and goatsImproved breed pigs and goats are a source of food and of earnings for a rural family.

Livestock also produce manure which can be used as a natural fertilizer for the fields.

Book-keeping: $35 - Buy
Book keeping equipmentLedgers, calculators and stationery are the tools of the trade for Self Help Africa's women's savings and credit co-ops. Support a small savings and credit coop by helping them with these practical gifts.

Vegetable gardens: $180 - Buy
Veg GardensVegetable gardens provide improved nutrition for the farmer's family, and crops to sell in the market.

Beekeeping Beekeeping provides rural Africans with a valuable source of income and bees play an important role in pollinating other crops.

Your gift will support our work in introducing beehives to food-insecure families.

Farm tools: $100 - Buy
Farming toolsRight across sub-Saharan Africa, subsistence farmers work the land without very basic tools such as hoes, shovels and wheelbarrows.

Your gift will help us to help the poorest farmers with these tools, and so help them to farm better.

Plant a forest: $1,000 - Buy
Plant a forestTree planting helps to halt erosion, mitigate the effects of climate change, and improve rainfall patterns. Plantations provide communities with wood for cooking, fruit trees and feed for livestock.
