Tributes paid on the death of 'exceptional' Malawi director |
Self Help Africa's UK director Steve Langdon has led tributes to the organisation's Malawian country director Harris Mfune, who has died following a short illness.
Harris Mfune had worked with Self Help Africa (formerly Harvest Help) since 2001, and was largely responsible for establishing the organisation's successful development initiatives in Northern Malawi, which are operated under the FAIR partnership, in conjunction with NGOs 'Find Your Feed' and the 'Development Fund of Norway'.
A highly regarded and well respected development professional, Mr. Langdon said that all in the Self Help family had been extremely saddened to learn of Harris's death, which followed a short illness.
'He was an exceptional man and a fine colleague, and he will be missed not just by his friends and colleagues in Self Help Africa, but also by the communities and the many people whose lives he touched in Malawi. Our thoughts and wishes are with his family at this difficult time', he added.
Programme co-ordinator Jenny Rafanomezana said that Harris was devoted to his job improving the lives of the poor of his country. 'He was as happy talking to farmers in their fields as to high ranking officials', she said.
And Self Help Africa's CEO Ray Jordan paid tribute to the late Harris Mfune, saying that the organisation had lost a talented, committed, and valued colleague.
