Gogne:

Eritrea

Located in the hot and dry western lowlands of Eritrea's Gash Barka region, Gogne development project was started by Self Help Africa in late 2005.

The project is operating in ten administrative village centres - Bishatte, Adarat, Tekawda, Haterdewar, Asugie, Gerda, Tokombia, Dassie Fode and Gogne, and is working with a target population of close to 21,000 people.

The main activities being undertaken are focussed around increasing food and crop production. This is being achieved in a variety of ways, including through the distribution of improved quality seed, development of irrigation systems, and provision, on a 'revolving fund' basis of vegetable and other seed stock.

Other work is taking place to improve natural resource management, build local capacity, and improve access to public water supply, and to basic social services.
