INTRODUCTION Project is designed to support 15,000 members of farmers cooperatives to produce high quality malting barley for use in the brewing and agri-food sector.
LOCATION The project is taking place in the Bale and West Arsi areas of Oromia region, and specifically amongst farmers in Kofele, Munessa and Shirka districts.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE Self Help Africa is working in collaboration with Agri Service Ethiopia (ASE) and with the three farmers cooperative unions of Raya Kajema, Gallema and Hitossa on this project, which is seeking to increase local production amongst 15,000 farmers of high quality malt barley.
The project is also seeking to create sustainable market linkages between the three farmers' cooperatives and one malt barlety factory and other agro-processors, and to build the capacity of these unions to support their members, and provide an improved service to farmers.
