Huruta:

Ethiopia

Self Help's Huruta Project was started in the Spring of 2006, with funding support provided by One51, the charitable foundation of the Irish Agricultural Wholesale Society(IAWS).

Situated adjacent to Self Help's earlier Dodota Project in the Arsi Zone, 140km south-east of Addis Ababa, the project objective is to increase agricultural production and productivity, increase farm household incomes, improve access to social services, and restore the natural resource base of the district.

Project components to be carried out over the five year term of the project will include improving crop productivity and promoting agricultural diversification, livestock production, natural resource management, education, rural water supply, health, mainstreaming of gender issues, womens development activities, HIV/AIDS mainstreaming, and local capacity building.
