The project aims to increase food security and income for 200 families.

Farmers are taught sustainable agriculture techniques and how to manage their surrounding natural resources. Soil fertility technologies are encouraged as a way to increase crop yields.

Self Help Africa is also working to strengthen the capacity of our local partner for this project, LOMADEF (Lipangwe Organic Manure Demonstration Farm).

Since its establishment in 2003, LOMADEF has been working to enable poor farmers, especially women, to improve their skills and knowledge in agriculture practices to ensure stable harvests.

LOMADEF provides residential and non-residential training; their approach is based on farmer experimentation, problem analysis, adaptation and extension.
