Self Help Africa's Kayunga programme, which started in 2007, is seeking to improve food and livelihood security for communities in a district with a population of 297,000 people.
The main activities being undertaken include the distribution on a revolving fund basis of beans, maize and upland rice, and a range of activities designed to support food production at farm household level.
As a part of a clean water and sanitation programme a campaign to encourage the installation of pit latrine toilets was carried out across several districts, while clean water points and bore holes to improve potable water supply has been undertaken.
Farmer producers in the project area have been supported with training and tree cuttings to raise fruit tree seedlings as a means of diversifying income and improving local food production.
Support has been provided for the provision of functional adult literacy classes, while assistance was been given with the delivery of voluntary counselling and testing for HIV/AIDS. |
