Local Capacity 4 Local Livelihoods

The primary objective of the Local Capacity 4 Local Livelihoods Programme is to strengthen the capacity of local partner NGOs and facilitiate effective development partnerships. The programme will seek to contribute to an effective and empowered Zambian civil society that will be able to support the rural poor to improve livelihoods and have a voice in their futures.

The programme seeks to :

1. Improve the knowledge base of existing environment NGO/CBO’s including community based organisations (particularly within SHA operational areas).
2. Identify and develop NGO capacity building needs and networking potential
3. Improve the administrative and technical capacity of NGO partners
4. Build new NGO partnerships, expand networks, develop strategic linkages and improve mentoring capacity.

The Local Capacity 4 Local Livelihoods will undertake an assessment of the presence and current status of existing NGOs and Community based organisations at both district and national level.

It will gather and collate data, and design and establish an electronic database of information. Using this data the programme will identify opportunities for networking and collaboration, identify primary resources NGOs for projects, and establish an NGO advisory committee.

The project will also seek to identify key NGO’s from other sectors who could participate in capacity building activities, facilitate organisational analysis and self-assessment for NGOs, and identify specific capacity building needs.

The programme will host training sessions and workshops, facilitate peer exchanges, staff secondments and short term volunteer assignments in other NGOs, and seek to strengthening strategic networking and partnership potential.

the initiative is being supported by the following organisations in Zambia:
