Striking a Balance: Seasonal Wetlands Projects

Mpika, Northern Province: Zambia
Simlemba, Central Region: Malawi

The overall aim of this project is to reduce poverty among communities which depend on the wetlands for their livelihoods. As well as testing wetland management strategies, Self Help Africa is also influencing national and international policies to raise awareness of the role of wetlands in poverty reduction.

This project is in partnership with Wetland Action (www.wetlandaction.org), a not-for-profit organisation that supports the sustainable management of wetlands.

The project has been running since July 2006 and will continue until December 2008. A new wetlands initiative is currently being planned to take forward this work, with emphasis on wetlands and health.
