Self Help Africa (SHA) Malawi Country Programme wishes to recruit a Project Manager for its Resilience Livelihoods Project in Karonga. The Project Manager will be responsible for provision of project technical support, budgeting and budget management, project administration, reporting and day-to-day project operations consistent with project cycle management and the project’s goal with highest standards of programmatic quality.
The project Manager will also be required to work with communities and local government structures in Karonga in order to bring about tangible and significant increase in the resilience of the vulnerable communities, and promote adaptation initiatives to mitigate impacts of climate change and variability across targeted communities in the district.
This is a senior position created to spearhead overall coordination and quality of SHA programme locally in order to provide effective support to partners that build skills and confidence of rural communities to become self reliant.
In order to succeed in this role, the successful candidate is expected to have amongst other attributes: | | |  | A strong commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the programme in Malawi
|
|  | Relevant third level education in Development,Climate Change or Agriculture and related disciplines |
|  | A minimum of 5 years experience at senior level in a similar level or working in / managing climate change, resilient livelihoods, disaster risk reduction and/or agriculture and related projects. |
|  | A good understanding of project cycle management approaches and tools – including Participatory Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment and Planning, project appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and partners’ capacity building. |
|  | Good knowledge and understanding of key aspects of development work; including food, nutrition and livelihood security, cross-cutting themes (e.g.gender, environment, HIV/AIDS), and integration of disaster mitigation and climate change response in development programming. |
|  | Familiar with issues of governance, power and rights, and understanding of advocacy, campaigning and lobbying. |
|  | Have a good working knowledge of institutional donors, particularly policies and funding modalities and rules |
|  | Skills in training/facilitation of development processes, including organisation and mobilization of communities and networking among different development partners such as community-based organisations (CBOs), governments and SHA staff and their respective roles and responsibilities. |
|  | High level skills and experience in planning, budgeting and writing management and financial reports to donors, |
|  | A mature self-starter, able to work independently,think critically and reflect and willing to take calculated risks to enable learning; good communication skills, excellent people management and interpersonal skills preferably in an NGO; able to live, motivate and work closely with big and diverse team with minimum direct supervision |
|  | Excellent verbal, analytical, and organisational skills |
|  | Commitment to international and humanitarian NGO codes, standards and practices |
|  | High level integrity and high standards of personal conduct, |
|  | Understanding and experience of administration,finance, procurement and logistics systems |
|  | Strong skills in speaking and writing English with solid computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, powerpoint and email |
