Self Help Africa wishes to recruit a new Country Director for its Eritrea country programme.
SHA has been working in Eritrea since 1996, working at grassroots level bringing simple and effective innovations to food production, sustainable rural livelihoods, managing natural resources and working with the community to access clean water. SHA carries out similar projects in eight other African countries.
The Country Director is responsible for the overall management and development of SHA’s programme in Eritrea and for ensuring that SHA’s work contributes effectively and efficiently towards meeting the needs of small holder farmers. Self Help Africa and the APDD have recently signed project MoUs which describe projects to be implemented by Project Steering Committees in 4 Zobas.
The Eritrea Country Director will have the key responsibility to take these agreements forward in order to strengthen and develop the programme with local partners. The Country Director will report directly to the Director of Programmes in SHA HQ.
The Country Director will provide a clear strategic vision, ensuring staff, partners and other stakeholders support for the strategy, bringing sound analysis of processes of change and effectively implementing this strategy.
The Country Director will maintain a general oversight of the entire programme; and be responsible for ensuring that all issues are dealt with appropriately, and for ensuring that the programme, financial and legal integrity of Self Help Africa's programme are maintained.

|  | Appropriate degree level qualifications, preferably supplemented by relevant post-graduate qualifications |
|  | Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills in English |
|  | Strong interpersonal and inter-cultural communication skills |
|  | Excellent staff management and personnel skills including a proven ability to develop the capacities of multi-disciplinary professional teams |
|  | Experience in programme proposal and report writing with a proven ability to secure funding |
|  | Experience in proposal and report writing with a proven ability to secure donor funding
|
|  | Experience in liaising with government officials and a variety of donors
|
|  | Ability to properly manage complex financial control and management systems |
|  | Sound and up to date knowledge of development concepts, methodologies and techniques and the ability to critique them |
|  | Commitment to international and humanitarian NGO codes, standards and practices |
