Self Help Africa is seeking to recruit a Programme Development Advisor.

The purpose of this post is to improve programme development processes and quality of implementation across the organisation. Working within the Policy and Strategy Team, this post will use the body of evidence and best practice generated, both from within Self Help Africa and from other development actors, to ensure new proposals and programmes across Self Help Africa countries of operation are of the highest standard and coherent with the Self Help Africa organisational strategy. In collaboration with the Policy and Strategy and Programme teams, this post will lead the drive to improve programme development and will be critical to enabling a significant scale up of Self Help Africa’s work.

The successful candidate will represent Self Help Africa in appropriate sector forums, liaise with donors and build strategic collaborations with like-minded organisations.

Prerequisites
The successful candidate is likely to have:

• Masters in agriculture, rural development, social or development studies or a related discipline.
• At least six years experience of working in overseas development in a project/programme role with research and policy experience.
• Very good knowledge and experience of programme cycle management.
• Extensive experience in report writing for funding agencies.
• Strong research, evaluation and analytical skills.
• Experience of working on rural development programmes in Africa.
• Experience in using participatory approaches in project design and implementation.
• In depth understanding of monitoring and evaluating rural development programmes.
• Good organisation, planning and management skills.
