During the 30 days of your typical mobile phone billing period, 250,000 children around the world will die, many of them in Africa, simply from a lack of food.
Phones for Africa is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for food projects in rural Africa. Get your school involved and start helping children get enough food to eat, and have enough time and energy to enjoy their childhood.
Together, we can recycle Phones for Africa to save lives!
It is estimated that there are currently 3 billion phones in the world, 90 million of these are in people’s drawers collecting dust. Some are being put in the bin and eventually ending up in landfill sites causing further environmental problems.
All money raised will be spent working with families in rural Africa, helping them to grow enough food to feed their families and earn an income.
The downloadable resource packs below provide you with all of the information that you will need to start recycling in your classroom today.
Click 'save as' to download and view the resources above to your computer. You can then present then to your class as additional multimedia resources to support 'Phones for Africa'.
How your support will change lives...
For every mobile phone that is recycled by YOU we will receive £1 if the handset is broken, or £3.50 if the phone is still in good working order.
Check out those old presses, drawers and boxes at home - you know there are old phones lying around. Why not get rid of them now, and lend your support to people in rural Africa at the same time.
The power of a phone
We aren't giving mobile phones to people in Africa.
Rather, this scheme is a fundraising venture to raise money from the recycling of old phones. This money will in turn be invested in our Africa development programmes.
Mobile phones do have a vital part to play in African life however - allowing remote rural communities who have neither electricity nor fixed line telephones to communicate with their families and friends, and to do business - like this woman above, who can use her phone to arrange transport for her produce to market, organise for the sale of her water melons, and much more besides.
