Cost effectiveness

Self Help Africa works at grassroots level with an all-African staff, employing an approach that is both cost effective, and sustainable.

Our committment to working in partnership with local communities and local partners, - and to tailoring our work to the real needs of the people with whom we are working, is at the heart of the success of our programmes over nearly a quarter of a century.

By promoting and supporting simple and effective innovations to farming, managing natural resources, and helping people access basic services like clean water, healthcare and education, we have been able to transform the lives of communities across each of the nine African countries where we are working.

Celebrating achievement

The achievements of Self Help Africa are first and foremost the achievements of the people with whom we work.

The small-holding farmers who are now self-sufficient in food production and even producing surpluses, the women who have set up small home businesses, the local villagers who no longer have to carry water for long distances, and the communities who finally have the means to live life free from poverty and need - are just some of the success stories which we have shared in celebrating.

Across our programmes we are privileged to work with local people and communities whose efforts, energy, resourcefulness and dedication have enabled them to bring clear, and measurable improvements to their lives.

The stories here are just a handful of the work and achievements of the people of Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Togo, Uganda and Zambia with whom we have been working.

It provides a window into our work, and a window into the lives of communities who are overcoming adversity and disadvantage, to provide a better lives for themselves, their families, and for the generations to come.
