During the 30 days of the World Cup in South Africa, 250,000 children around the world will die, many of them in Africa, simply from a lack of food.
Score a Goal Against Hunger is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for food projects in rural Africa. Get your school involved and help children in Africa get enough food to eat so they don't go hungry and have enough energy to enjoy games like football.
Q. What’s the easiest way to help? A. Wear your favourite kit to school!
While your pupils get into World Cup fever watching the matches in South Africa, how about holding a simple ‘non uniform day’ with pupils wearing their favourite sports strip? You could charge a £1 fee and hold it on Friday 9th July to coincide with the final on 11th July.
To get involved in the campaign, download our free resource pack and get stuck in with some footie fundraising!
Together, we can Score a Goal Against Hunger this World Cup!
The pack contains instructions on how to make a plastic bag football and how to run a football tournament, an overview of Self Help Africa and Send a Cow, suggested wording for a letter to parents and a donation form.
Interactive assembly
This assembly is suitable for all age groups. Using the World Cup as a starting point, it teaches children about how difficult life is for some children in Africa and how they can be helped.
It involves the pupils through relevant questions and participation. Comprehensive teachers' notes are included.

Beekeeping in Africa: short film
Beekeeping is just one of ways we help families escape poverty. This film presents the benefits of beekeeping in a simple and fun way. You can use the film within the assembly, or by itself.
All donations from our Score a Goal Against Hunger campaign will be split between Self Help Africa and Send a Cow.
Both organisations have been working for many years supporting farming families to grow enough food, earn an income and gain better access to water, education and health care.
Make a plastic bag football!
Many children in Africa can't afford a leather football so they make their own out of plastic bags. You can make one too - find instructions in the pack!
